I had a great night performing with the incomparable Blues Boss last night for two sold out shows. Kenny is a consummate performer and is the darling of international festivals from Brazil to Switzerland to Spain to the States!
I couldn't resist grabbing my phone while we were performing onstage to capture a particularly hot moment (below).
Tonite I am at TenTenTapas.com for my regular Saturday funky and swinging gig, with special guest Mimi Snider, who has a special and inviting twist on the Bossa Nova genre. Still the jazziest bistro in Vancouver!
Sunday I am performing with the indefatigable Billy Dixon and Soultrain Express on the Queen of Diamonds Harbour Cruise (1 pm) No one will get wet, so come and party - only a few tickets left!

Tomorrow, Wed Aug. 26, performing at the Bentall Summer Concert Series (rescheduled from a rain-out), is the formidible Les Is More, with a punchy 90 minute set starting at noon (1055 Dunsmuir St, lower plaza below TD Bank). Leslie Harris and her band have been polishing the blues for a number of years and it shows!
Friday Aug 28, same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel, (that's noon to 1:30) is the Blues Boss himself, Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne. I will be performing with him as well, and this noon show was added as a thanks to Bentall Towers Tenants and music lovers in Vancouver. It's sort of a dress rehearsal, but we'll be way fresh! For those who couldn't get into his sold out show that same evening at Blue Frog Studios Concert Stage in White Rock, your prayers have been answered, as a second show has been added! This caps a summer-long series generously hosted by the swell folks at Ivanhoe-Cambridge and the Bentall Centre. Gabriel is a totally unique jazz artist, creating an enticing and varied palette of textures and colors with his trumpet, flugelhorn, flute, valve ‘bone, and electronic wind instruments with erudite grace and lyricism. He has had half dozen Billboard Top 20 charting tracks of his own, and many more with other Artists as featured soloist. Besides a JUNO Award (Canadian equivalent of a Grammy), two JUNO/Technics ‘All Star Band’ Awards, a West Coast Music Award, a Jazz In The Park ‘Best Instrumental Performance’ Award, an Ampex Golden Reel Award, and several gold and platinum albums to his credit (with his earlier group Powder Blues and others), 2011 saw Gabriel win both ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ awards at the Canadian Smoothies for ‘Told Ya So’.

What a beautiful summer weather-wise! Rain will come, so don't wait to 'make hay' while the sun shines!
If you haven't experience the Top Ten rated Vancouver Patio at Ten Ten Tapas (1010 Beach Ave on the seawall), then you are truly missing out! I perform my special brand of jazzy-cool there every Saturday eve, and am into my fourth year!
The fantastic Chef Dave Martin has upped the menu in portions and sumptuousness (that's a real word!), but not in price.... great share plates that are perfect for intimate dates or casual groups of friends.
TenTen has frozen Mojito specials and are a summer favourite with a hint of passionfruit and plenty of aromatic mint..... created by mixologist Pierre Spenard.
I start playing at 7:00, but make a rezzie to get a choice table inside or on the patio.
I have a bunch of new tunes and will be featuring a little tribute to Chet Baker this week. We usually have some special guests on vocals and/or horns to round out the evening.
