New Single #1 Most Added on Billboard!

The award winning keyboard whiz, Greg Manning, who was featured on my Open Invitation album, has released his new single Sugar and Spice, which immediately tied at #1 on Billboard’s Most Added. Sirius XM Watercolors added it immediately, which is usually is a tough sell :-)

I am proud to have been part of this project, creating the brass section on this track Sugar and Spice, playing trumpets and trombone, as well as being featured soloist on another track, hopefully the second single 🎺🎶.

Check out his album coming out soon..

Throwback Thursday - Maui Music Memories

By golly, it is Throwback Thursday, and it appears it has come full circle!

I have just been invited to perform at the Sixth Annual Maui Jazz and Blues Festival Sept 10!

The video below is from a prior concert in Maui in about 2002, where I got to perform with George Benson

And in about 2000 I recorded a CD and filmed Live On Maui, which was shot by Jazz Alley TV for BET, and shown in 41 countries.

This September I will be part of an ABC TV special, and it will be good to get back to the Islands!

The shank of the week!

OK, last night was beyond all expectations!
The Fairview was packed and the manager said sales were up 30%, partly due to the authentic New Orleans style music, and partly due to the featured dinner special which (was Jambalaya of course), plus the authentic featured NOLA cocktails like the Sazerac and the Ramos Gin Fizz....
The crowd danced and we laid down a solid New Orleans street party vibe (I had my new Yellowjacket trumpet, too)!
This Mardi Gras Night happens at 7 pm EVERY THURSDAY at the Fairview, 898 West Broadway.... FYI, the Fairview has been Vancouver's hotbed of Jazz and Blues for 25 years, and is still going strong, so c'mon down- very casual attire and crowd!

SATURDAY NIGHT I am back at my homebase Ten Ten Tapas, where there is consistent ebullience and joi de vivre! The food is EXCELLENT (created by award winning executive Chef Paul), the patio is open all day and was named Top 5 in Vancouver, and I try to keep the music on par with the other great components! (FYI, by all accounts I am succeeding... starting at 7 pm).

It is easy to get to Ten Ten Tapas: It's on the seawall at 1010 Beach Ave (just under the Burrard Bridge), and parking is free! Just drive down the lane next to the 1000 Beach highrise, and park in the parkade in the white 'restaurant spots'. Here is what the parkade entrance actually looks like: https://goo.gl/maps/RE51n7ZpvFT2   .... Rezzies recommended 604-689-7800. Don't forget Sunday--- Mother's Day Brunch at TenTen, with live classical music and a great menu just for Mother!

If you enjoy the West End experience, drop into The Sylvia Hotel on Wednesday next week (May 11). I start at 8 pm and the view behind me is a pristine panorama of English Bay. I play in their great lounge- iconic as a matter of fact! See you there!

Followed, of course on Thursday with the Fairview NOLA Experience yet again!

Another jam packed week ahead!

Wow, the gigs keep coming in!  Always updated schedule at  www.gabrieljazz.com/shows.htm

This week is really packed, and I hardly have time to keep up with Scandal, Good Wife, and House of Lies!

OK, some new stuff on the docket:

Tomorrow (Tues) I am at the Blue Martini (1516 Yew St.@ Cornwall  604.428.2691) for the Tuesday All-Star Jam. I'm not the boss, so I get a low-pressure ride playing some new and groovy tunes with guitarists extraordinaire Kelly Brown and Downtown Dan! Come after your Kits beach stroll, there is great food and blue martinis to try- 7:30-10:30

Thursday I start a continuing engagement at The Fairview - a unique theme this time: Mardi Gras Night! Every Thursday at 7 pm we step into the NOLA vibe with authentic French Quarter Cocktails, Food, and Music! Special guest, including Tilden Webb, Loren Etkin, and more : http://windtunnelrecords.posthaven.com/a-little-taste-of-mardi-gras-with-gabriel

Friday I catch up on my fav TV shows and eat dinner at home (Sylvia is an AWESOME COOK), but watch for upcoming Friday dates at Frankies Italian Kitchen and Blue Martini !

Saturday I am at ground zero Ten Ten Tapas, right on the seawall at 1010 Beach Ave at 7 pm. It is easy to find, right under the Burrard St Bridge, next to the Aquatic Center. Free parking in the parkade (along the 1000 Beach lane), and we always have great guest stars.... The patio is awesome, (voted Top 5 patio in Vancouver!), so come enjoy daytimes (when the sun is blazing) or especially Saturday eves when I Rock the Ribjoint! BTW, there is music at 1010 Thurs- Sun!

Wednesday May 11 I am at the Sylvia Hotel, (1154 Gilford St@ Beach- English Bay). They asked me back right away after last Thursday's packed house. 8-10 pm. Come early, seats go fast!  Linda Szentes will be guest artist!!! (Maybe more)

Last Sunday was Jazz Vespers, and it rocked! Chris Haas on drums, Timothy Stacey on bass, Jason De Couto on piano.
There are a couple of Vespers coming up with me guesting or hosting:

Linda Szentes and Jazzlinks May 18 (I'm guesting) at Brentwood Presbyterian 1600 Delta Ave , Burnaby-  8pm. With stalwarts
Roy Sluyter on keys, Johan Worst on bass, me, and Linda on Ella Fitzgerald inspired vocals.

May 22 at a new Vespers venue for me: Northwood United Church Jazz Vespers (corner of 88th Ave. & 156th St. Surrey).
4 -6 pm. This one features my repertoire, and will be a six piece band including Lisa Fennell on vocals, Timothy Stacey on bass, Richard Freeman on keys, Adam Rohrlick on guitar, and new addition Terry Williams on drums.

Come on out and show your support!!!

Here is BeBop on the patio at Ten Ten Tapas (trying to get my famous Ten ten Tapas frozen mojito).... It's a Dawg's Life!

There is a party going on, be a part of it!

The music just keeps coming!

Wow! Many thanks to all my friends and fans, especially the fine singers Lisa Fennell and LJ Mounteney, who came out to the Sylvia Hotel for my inaugural gig Thursday! It was packed and what a great room to play!

Your attendance helped make it a very memorable night, and they liked it so much they called today for another booking May 11, so put it in your calendars and let's do it again!
Saturday (today by the time you read this), I will be performing at my regular Saturday haunt at www.TenTenTapas.com right on the water at the foot of 1000 Beach Ave. Did you know there is free parking there? Come right down the lane alongside the highrise, right to the venue and parking. Ten Ten has an awesome patio and inside is chic and the food is superlative! I start at 7, and we really have the vibe dialed in, so come see what the buzz is all about.

Sunday is also quite special! I'll be at St Andrews Wesley (Burrard @ Nelson) at 4 pm for the iconic Jazz Vespers. Duke Ellington started the tradition in New York in 1946, and we will carry the torch! I will have Jason DeCouto on piano, Chris Haas on drums, and Timothy Stacey on bass, and we have some new originals lined up, as well as two classics - from the great Miles Davis, currently being lauded in theatres - and Clifford Brown, arguably the Patron Saint of Trumpeters!
If you haven't experienced the effervescent acoustics and the warm and uplifting environment of St Andrews, you owe it to yourself to come on down...

Friday Night Blastoff at Blue Martini

I hope you come out this Friday, April 22!
Blue Martini is a very swish place with great food and ambiance galore.
I'll have a top flight five piece band, including Lawrence Mollerup (bass), Buff Allen (drums), Kelly Brown (guitar), and Rich Freeman (keys), and we will be rocking the house!
There will be some classic easy swinging tunes to get you started, and also some real punchy stuff, many from my albums, that can only be done with a full band. I'll be wailing on my shiny blue Tromba Hybrid, too.

Rezzies recommended 604 428 2691

Jazz Fest video

Hi Everyone,

I had a great time at the Chandler Jazz Festival, and want to thank you all!

Here is a link to some video I cobbled together:

That was a pretty big introduction to live up to, but we all hit it hard and had a blast!

I hope I didn't leave anyone out of the credits, and a big shout out to Bart Salzman for his herculean organizational feats.

I tried to make sure all the musicians got some good licks in the video, but I did have to pare it down quite a bit.

Will Gaines, Lamar Gaines, Buddy Banks, and Adam Armijo- you all played your asses off!

WYSIWYG!

Until next time....
